His real name is Michael Brown; Ealy is the name he uses for acting. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the movies Barbershop (), its sequel Barbershop 2: Back in Business (), 2 Fast 2 Furious (), Their Eyes Were Watching God (), Seven Pounds (), For Colored Girls (), and Underworld: Awakening ().

On television, Ealy stars as Dorian in the science-fiction police drama, Almost Human.
